Topsoil was cleared from the full flood area by the end of Day 2. Some topsoil was cleared to be sold and that from the base of the bank was stored to re-cover the bank after it was formed. Topsoil was removed to the depth of the sub-soil. The only area that clay was exposed was in the 'borrow area' at the foot of the bank.
